Get lower car insurance rates with Pleasure Use

Can I get lower car insurance rates if I live close to my work? It's only about a 2 mile drive and it seems unfair to have to pay full commute rates when I live so close.

It depends on how your car insurance company rates your vehicle usage. Some companies break commute use of the vehicle into two categories: Work less than 15 miles and Work 15 miles or more. Obviously, the longer drive to work you have, the higher your risk of being involved in a car accident. Therefore, you will pay a higher rate if you have a longer commute to work. But you may qualify for Pleasure Use rates even though you are using your car to commute.

Each company has a slightly different definition for the Please Use rating, but if your company defines it as driving less than three road miles one way then you may qualify for the pleasure use rating. This is generally the lowest car insurance rate you can get, so if your commute is within the mileage guidelines, you may be able to save money on your car insurance!
