This is at best disingenuous, because it really gives us no idea how many people actually switched from GEICO to Allstate. OF COURSE the ones who switched saved money, if their current premium with GEICO had been cheaper, they wouldn't have switched! Also, that is a huge margin for an average 6 month auto premium, more likely due to an underwriting difference, like failure to consider a DUI, than any real difference in competitiveness. I hope someone gives this dishonest ad some real media coverage, I expected better from a company like Allstate. I personally was a little shocked at Allstate's claim, since up until a few months ago I wrote with Allstate as an independent agent. In my area, Allstate's rates were not very competitive, so I was surprised to hear they beat GEICO by this large amount. But you have to remember that by "cherry picking" their customers, any company is able to selectively attract the customers they want by offering substantially lower rates than another company. So if Allstate decided their preferred market is to be the 35-45 married couples, no children, dual wage earner with excellent credit, they could simply price their products accordingly. And The gecko is absolutely correct. Don't just take a company's word for the amount you'll save on your car insurance. Quote your car insurance around and find the lowest rate for yourself.
